Stiching, Third Grade

Stitching

Last Year’s third grade classes learned about Colonial samplers and their history. Then they created these beautiful initial pieces.  First students practiced making cursive bubble letters and these were traced on to burlap.  Then students painted the inside of their letters using tempera paints, and finally it was time to sew!  Students selected a yarn color that would contrast with their paint selection and used a running stitch to outline their letters concentrating on creating a nice even stitch.  Some students choose to add a border or other embellishment and the results are fantastic!
